Sterling is a literary journal for everyone’s stories. We accept fiction, poetry and comics from writers at all levels. Each issue of Sterling has its own look and feel because we love printed material. It’s also a way to celebrate our ongoing triumphs over the blank page.
Sterling is interested in original material only.
Payment: Stories and comics: $25 + one physical copy of the journal. Poems: $10 each + one physical copy of the journal per author.
Terms: We buy First North American Serial Rights for our print & digital editions.
Simultaneous submissions: No problem. If you piece has been accepted elsewhere, please let us know.
Selection process: Submissions are judged by a rotating panel of readers and, occasionally, guest editors. Please allow up to three months for a reply to your submissions, although we aim to respond to all writers within two months or less.
Proofing: We reserve the right to suggest minor tweaks or corrections before going to print. We will share an edited .pdf proof prior to publication for comments, but the final decision stays with us.
Reading fee: Sterling charges $3 per submission. In exchange, all authors will receive a digital copy of our next issue in their choice of format (pdf or ebook). We've wrung our hands on this issue but have come down in favor of fees to encourage more targeted submissions, offset production costs, and expand our readership.
